Online Workshop: Whimsical Mermaids!

This online workshop will focus on designing, drawing and painting whimsical mermaids! In this two-week session, we will focus on a fun, innovative design approach, vivid color schemes, mermaid anatomy (combining human and sea creature characteristics), drawing water and sea creatures, and using various media and rendering techniques (watercolor, ink, acrylic and more). We’ll then combine these techniques and concepts to create several step-by-step themed mermaid artworks.

This workshop is for new artists as well as those with more experienced art skills who want to expand their abilities into whimsical fantasy.

  • Sketchbook or sketch paper
  • Drawing Pencils
  • Colored Pencils
  • Markers
  • Watercolor paint
  • Acrylic craft paint (Delta Creamcoat OR FolkArt)
  • Rubbing Alcohol (optional)
  • Waterproof Inking pens
  • Black Opaque Airbrush paint (I use Createx)
  • Heat gun (optional)
  • Gesso
  • Metallic Paints
  • Gloss or semi-gloss varnish
  • White Gel pen
  • Paint Brushes
  • Novelty pens (Sakura Soufflé or Stardust pens, glitter pen or metallic pens)
  • Eraser
  • Bristol board or Hot press watercolor paper OR Watercolor paper (cold press, good quality, Arches is a good brand!)
  • Canvas or Masonite, any size

Cancellation Policy: A full refund, less $10 administration fee, will be given for cancellations up to one day prior to the start date of each program (February 15, 2010). There will be no refunds given on or after the start date of our online workshop (February 16, 2010).
